What Will Happen
After completing all necessary paperwork and being entered into our computer system, you will be greeted by one of Dr. Angelov’s dental assistants. They will take you back to give you a tour of our state of the art office and gather all necessary x-rays and intraoral pictures while the doctor and hygienist get ready to meet you.
Dentique Dental uses digital radiography. Having a full set of x-rays in our
office is equivalent to less radiation than being in the sun for 20 minutes.
Dr. Angelov takes pride in being thorough and performing a truly comprehensive dental exam. At the same time, she focuses on your chief complaints and concerns that you may have.
Dr. Angelov will go over and talk to you about your New Patient Questionnaire and Medical and Dental History. Dr. Angelov is a good listener and wants you to be comfortable telling her what brought you to her office, and what concerns that you may have for her to address. Afterward, she will perform the exam to check for cavities, broken teeth, broken crowns, dentures, partials, missing teeth and so on. She performs soft tissue exams (extra oral and intraoral), which, checks for any abnormalities. Also, she uses VELscopeVx to check for early precancerous lesions.
Dr. Angelov and her skilled hygienists do periodontal exams to see what kind of soft tissue management you may need. They will give you a written treatment plan with prices that they will explain to you in detail to make sure you understand. This is the time for you to ask any questions you may have regarding your treatment. If you have insurance, we will be happy to help you to file insurance as a courtesy by our front office staff. They are knowledgeable at helping you get your maximum benefits from your insurance.
Healthy Mouth Cleaning vs. Gross Debridement
At Dentique Dental we value your time and we try to do the cleaning on the same day of the exam. The hygienist will do a periodontal charting and they will call out a series of numbers (6 numbers per tooth). If your results include measurements of under 3 mm and no generalized bleeding, you are a candidate for a Healthy Mouth Cleaning (otherwise known as prophy). However, if you have generalized bleeding, infected/inflamed gums, a heavy amount of calculus, buildup or heavy staining, you will need Gross Debridement. This will result in a follow-up appointment.
If you are not much of a flosser or brusher or you have a family history of bad teeth and gums, you are more likely to have probings of 4, 5, 6 or more. If you use tobacco or smoke—don’t panic! Chances are that you may need more than an hour for your teeth to be cleaned for a more involved SRP (Scaling Root Planning). We will bring you back and reschedule for another visit.
For the emergency patient the chief complaint (focus problem) is first addressed and then the patient is scheduled for a comprehensive exam.
